Brief profile
The Heide Region Development Agency (EARH) was formed in 2013 by Heide municipal administration and the 11 surrounding communities as an institution under public law. Its work focuses on implementing the urban-rural planning concept and on promoting the regional economy. A strategic priority in this connection is to maximise the use of the renewable energies generated in the region. On this basis the development agency launched its ENTREE100 project initiative, whose objective is to achieve the large-scale supply of energy with very high renewable quotas. The requisite experience in large-scale plant operation can be obtained through installation of myriad types of power-to‑X facilities at the demonstration site/Heide campus, a dedicated space where real-world labs belonging to the technology partners will take their place alongside facilities for research and science. To make this possible, we promote the close interaction of politicians, industry, science and local authorities.
Activities in the real-world laboratory
The EARH is the initiator, provider of ideas and driving force behind the ENTREE100 programme and the envisaged project. Within the real-world laboratory, it will play a key role in supporting the coordination, PR management and networking associated with the project. Throughout all the design stages, the EARH will be involved in particular in the technical, legal and commercial feasibility aspects, as well as in integrating all the site activities, bearing in mind that the project must be executed purposefully, also in synergy with other programmes.
Long-term vision
The Westküste100 real-world laboratory, together with other ongoing programmes, notably QUARREE100 and KEROSyN100, as well as forthcoming projects under the ENTREE100 initiative, is intended to establish the region as a European centre for the realised implementation of an efficient energy transition, offering wide-ranging and commercially viable solutions in an interconnected system. Alongside the creation of real-world labs and a campus for business and science, we aim to secure employment in the region in the long term, create new jobs and make a major contribution to achieving climate protection targets across all sectors. In doing so, we wish to establish not only energy generation and transformation, but also innovative applications in the region, in particular relating to hydrogen. www.region-heide.de
